Arabiaweather.com - Ismail Qasimi - Next year, Medina will receive an important event throughout the year, which is represented in being the capital of Islamic tourism 2017.

On this occasion, the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage and a number of concerned bodies and institutions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are preparing to launch a program dedicated to the care of historical mosques and to adopt a plan to make the city a capital worthy of Islamic tourism.

More than 40 entities from the public and private sectors will participate in the year-long event, offering more than 300 cultural and tourism events and distinctive activities, in addition to the participation of many volunteer groups and associations that will highlight the creativity of youth.

Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah includes more than 200 tourist sites and attractions, which vary between places, historical buildings, and archaeological sites, among them places of religious importance such as the Prophet’s Mosque and various mosques that existed during the period of the Prophethood, and others of historical value such as Quba Castle, Urwa bin Al-Zubayr Palace and the Hijaz Railway.

It is noteworthy that the selection of Medina as the Islamic tourism capital for the year 2017 took place during the meeting of the Ministers of Tourism of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in December 2015 in the capital of Niger, Niamey.
